The purpose of the film competition is to engage children and adults in recognizing and learning about Sephardic heritage. The competition will introduce them to the art of film making as well as expose a new generation to the SEC and our Los Angeles Sephardic Jewish Film Festival. In the past applicants have been exposed to prestigious professionals in the industry as well as gaining their own experience as an independent filmmaker in the Sephardic community.

We are inviting three categories/age ranges to participate:
Children Category: 4 to 8 grade
High School Category: Grades 9, 10, 11 and 12
Adult Category: 18 and up

GENERAL INFORMATION:
* Final submission in standard DVD format only (regardless of original shooting format)

* English or English subtitles

* Submissions must be received by 4:30 PM Monday October 31st 2016

Judging based on demonstrated creativity, Sephardic interest & technical abilities.

Awards: The 1st place winner in each division will receive an award on stage and their film will be screened during the festival. In addition each winner will receive 2 tickets to the Opening Night Gala at Paramount Studios.

Submission Guidelines:

• The film must be made solely by the applicant(s). If a film is a group project, a separate application must be filled out and signed by each member of the group. If applicant(s) are under 18 a parental signature will be required for each. Only one prize will be awarded per film regardless of the number of participants involved in the production.
• The film must have Sephardic content but feel free to be creative!

• Ten minute maximum length including credits.

• Completed 2016 SEC Film Competition Application MUST accompany submission.
• Submit completed application, a copy of the DVD with your first and last initial ONLY marked with a BLACK sharpie directly on your DVD. No labels, please.

Permission for SEC use of material:
Please make sure you keep a copy of your DVD for your personal collection. All submissions will be kept and become the property of the SEC. All entries may be used in whole or in part and shown during the 2016 Film Festival and in subsequent years as well as on our website for informational or educational purposes. By signing the permission form on the application, the film maker and parents give the SEC all rights with regard to the submission.
