Why Do They Hate Us?
(France, 2017) 82 min., Documentary. French w/ English Subtitles
Producer/director Alexandre Amiel was struck when shortly after the Charlie Hebdo attack, his 11-year-old son asked, “Why do they hate us Jews?” For Amiel, a veteran Canal+ reporter and founder of the news production company Camera Subjective, this was a call to action. His answer was to produce a series on racism in France, which was aired on French television and we present part of his trilogy relating to Anti-Semitism in France, with poignant interviews with Amiel’s family from Morocco and the perennial Jewish question, “when is it too dangerous for Jews to remain here?”
**Director Alexandre Amiel will be present for a Q and A following the screening.
